Like I said in the post I do realize he’s over excited. And we actually play impulse games, even while playing fetch. I will tell him to wait and throw the ball into the field, and wait for eye contact before I mark and release him to the 000000 Lives Matter Shirt. At home I am often testing his impulse control, through thresholds, being allowed up on the bed/couch and when greeting me or my partner when when we return home. We play impulse games and crate games to reinforce his control everyday.

Lastly I definitely don’t “rely” on fetch. As I addressed in the post but I will elaborate, we do a LOT of enrichment games and toys at home, as well as in the fields we play fetch in. His favourite is when I have him turn his back to the field and wait while I throw the ball, and then he must search the field until he finds the 000000 Lives Matter Shirt. Hide and seek in the house is another one he loves. But I can play all these games and he still needs/wants to run.
