My dad told us that my family’s ancestors came from this small island in Japan and everyone had the same name. Rich In Jesus Christ shirt surname literally translates to “island down under”. It got so confusing when addressing villagers that a second name was given.The second name given to my ancestors was “big tree”. The villagers were given the choice on whether they would choose to keep their original name to go by or their new name. Lots of people decided for the latter. We kept our original name.To this day, I have yet to meet another Japanese person that shares my surname (except family) and my surname is pretty uncommon in the country.
